OSP: Kim Kardashian - context+LIAR

 Context

1. What is her background? Where is her family from? Who are her parents? Where did she appear early in her career?

She is a American woman born in LA and her family were Armenian immigrants from ottoman empire. In the early 2000s she worked as a stylist and gained media attention as a close friend and assistant to Paris Hilton.

Language

1. Describe 3 differences you can see between her Instagram and TikTok (look / pace / type of content).

  • Instagram acts as a polished, luxury portfolio featuring flawless high-fashion editorials, static photos, and strict business campaigns.
  • TikTok acts as an informal, raw video journal driven by viral trends, fast-paced edits, and candid family content with her daughter, North.
  • Instagram is a one-way broadcast where comments are often restricted or disabled on major promotional posts, keeping the audience at a distance to maintain her exclusive celebrity aura.
2. Explain how the genre features of TikTok change the tone of her content compared with Instagram.
The specific genre features of TikTok completely dismantle the distant, untouchable celebrity persona that Kim Kardashian maintains on Instagram, shifting her tone from aspirational and exclusive to accessible and self-aware.
3. Evaluate which platform gives her the most control over her brand image, and why.
Instagram gives her the higher level of control over her brand image because it operates as a static, one-way digital billboard that prioritises filtered perfection and allows her to disable comments.

4. Open her public Instagram feed. Find ONE post that best shows a consistent 'brand look' and note the media-language choices.

    a. Screenshot/sketch the post; note colour palette, shot type, caption style.

    b. Write 2 sentences: What does this post want the audience to think of her?

Year 11- Paper 1 Baseline Asessment Learner response

 1) Type up your feedback: No feedback

a. What Mark and Grade did you get? 1
17/42 Grade 4
b. What targets were you given for the longer written questions?
Don't be narrative get straight into character types

2) Look at the mark scheme for this assessment. For Question 2 (12 mark unseen) use the indicative content in the mark scheme to identify three points that you could have referred to in your answer.
• Representation is generally positive: character represented as smiling/
laughing/happy.
• Character is wearing glasses (essential, given the product) but it does
conform to a stereotype of older people having poor eyesight (could
potentially be an archetype given how prevalent it is in popular culture to
represent older people wearing them);
Facial expression also suggests wisdom/good humour/knowledge, a
positive representation of older people (and suggesting that buying from
Specsavers is a wise and easy thing to do).

3) For Question 3 (Galaxy - Propp's Character Theory) use the mark scheme to write down the main characters that you could have referenced and how we can link them to the Galaxy advert CSP.

• Audrey as princess and car driver as hero creates a simple Romeo and
Juliet romantic narrative.
• Car driver as (false) hero – he arrives to save the day (apparent hero)
but is demoted to chauffeur so becomes a helper (or donor of his car) –
his heroism is undermined by Audrey to comic effect, making him more
of a false hero.
Bus driver
• Bus driver as donor – he (unwillingly and comically) ‘donates’ Audrey his
cap, which she then uses to subvert the role of the car driver.
• He could also (potentially) be a villain (since his bus is preventing Audrey
from eating her chocolate) or even a dispatcher/Princess’ Father (since
by stopping the bus he has set Audrey off on her quest).

4) Now look at Question 4 (Galaxy - Class Stereotypes). Use the mark scheme to identify three points you could have made in your answer here.
• Audrey is a stereotypically powerful 1950s Hollywood rom-com lead:
feisty, attractive, smartly dressed, slightly shallow (in a comedic and
endearing way) and apparently wealthy, given her outfit and make-up –
the audience is invited to want to be like her (and thus want the
chocolate). She looks out of place on the bus, which might suggest a
countertype to traditional ideas of class and wealth (why is such a
wealthy character travelling in this way?)
• The car driver is a stereotypical ‘leading man’ – handsome, successful
and clearly wealthy, given his outfit, car and behaviour; as with Audrey,
he represents a 1950s Hollywood rom-com ‘Tony Curtis-esque’ figure;
The idea that chocolate is a reward (for women?) could be seen as a
stereotype used to persuade the audience that they should buy it – plays
on the stereotypes of luxury, wealth, and consumerism which are
common in chocolate advertising, particularly when aimed at a female
audience.

5) Next, look at Question 5 - Blackpink & Globalisation. Use the mark scheme to identify three ways the How You Like That music video has been tailored to Blackpink's global fanbase.

• Blackpink’s video includes evidence of globalisation as part of the song is
sung in English (particularly the rap and the chorus) which suggests a
Western influence.
• Some of the costumes worn by members of Blackpink are heavily
Westernised.
• The music video uses Western iconography such as the Chanel logo,
high-fashion costumes, European hair and make-up, teeth grills, hip-hop
and pop dance moves.

6) Lastly, look at Question 6 - Kiss FM & Money. Use the mark scheme to idea two revenue streams that you didn't consider in your response. How do they help to generate money for Kiss FM?

• Kiss Breakfast includes regular advertising breaks, with advertisements
being targeted at the 15–34 demographic.
• KISS belongs to Bauer Media Group, meaning that the conglomerate will
fund the station and offer cross-promotional opportunities, including
magazines and TV features.
• KISS Radio does not appear to have an official store, although several
unofficial online stores selling Kiss merchandise exist, suggesting it may
offer a revenue stream in the future.

6) Thinking ahead, write down three things you are going to work on before your next mock exam in December (e.g. time management; revising CSPs etc.)
1.Csp
2.Theories and structures
3.Time management
